Entertainment by the Oakwood Waits. In 1983, four residents of the historic Oakwood section in Raleigh, NC, came together to sing carols for their neighbors during the Christmas season. As years passed, others joined in until the band of singers became known as the Oakwood Waits. The name “Waits” derives from early English and refers to street musicians, especially singers.

Each year since, citizens of Raleigh and the surrounding region have looked forward to hearing the harmonious a cappella songs of the Oakwood Waits as they perform in authentic 1840’s attire in parades, public concerts, and private holiday gatherings. The 18 singers are some of the finest vocal musicians in the area who bring their theatrical talents to every performance.

The Oakwood Waits have entertained at the White House in Washington DC and the Biltmore in Ashville, NC. Note: The first Victorian Gala (December 2004) in which the Oakwood Waits appeared was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Caswell County.
